Support Needed for Noto Peninsula Earthquake Relief
We are urgently seeking your support for the Noto Peninsula community in Japan, which has been severely impacted by a recent earthquake. The Noto Peninsula, known for its rich tradition of crafts, particularly lacquerware, has seen profound damage to its skilled artisans and manufacturers due to this earthquake.
In response to this crisis, MONO JAPAN, an event dedicated to showcasing Japan's traditional crafts and craftsmanship in the Netherlands, is determined to extend support to those affected.
It has been more than a month since the earthquake struck the Noto Peninsula in January 2024. Despite the passage of time, the search for many missing individuals continues. Additionally, to recover from the significant damage caused by the earthquake is not easy for those affected. This includes many traditional craft workshops in the area.
Our fundraising campaign aims to gather financial aid for the Noto Peninsula Earthquake Relief Fund, which will not only provide immediate relief but also assist in rebuilding the livelihoods of the traditional craftspeople who have suffered considerable losses.
Support can be provided by donating to the fund, which will be accepted from February 1st (Thursday).
The fundraising period will end on February 29th, 2024 (Friday).
The total amount collected will be immediately transferred to the Japanese Red Cross in the week following the deadline.
Your generous contribution will make a meaningful impact on the lives of those affected, and we appreciate your support during this challenging time.

Hikoju Makie Revival Project
Due to the earthquake on January 1st, Wajima has suffered unprecedented damage. The Hikoju Group has also experienced the loss and complete or partial destruction of homes and workshops. In the current chaos, we are struggling to manage basic needs like food, and it's clear that soon, despair about the future will set in. As a result, more artisans might leave Wajima or their jobs, leading to the loss of valuable lacquer art techniques cultivated in Wajima. However, even in these tough circumstances, we believe that artisans will try their best to respond to any work orders that they receive. At Hikoju Makie, we want to provide work to these artisans before they lose their spirit in the aftermath of the earthquake, hoping to connect them to a future of hope. We would like to raise support funds for this purpose.
The funds raised will be used to rebuild the living and working environments of the artisans at Hikoju Makie, to provide tools and materials, and to operate the workshop, so that we can once again create lacquer art pieces. Please let us know your wish to donate.
